Delphine Angua von Uberwald by peach Delphine Angua von Uberwald by peach
"Her senses sharp and a mind that’s quick.... few escape the piercing gaze that sees beneath all pretense and facade... those who know she has two forms, respect and fear to tread the paths that may cause her wrath...but those who lack this insight or wit...seldom learn much past their first meeting."

Tribute to Terry Pratchett - my favourite fantasy author. Captain Delphine Angua von Überwald is member of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. In the television adaptation of Going Postal, Angua was played by Ingrid Bolsø Berdal. Perfect character cast and reference for this portrait.

Photoshop, about 8 hours

Lovely image of Angua. May I use it in a talk I'm giving on Discworld, at a tiny SF convention in August? Ah, with full credit, of course!

OHMYGODSOHMYGODSOHMYGODS!! HYPERVENTILATING! This is so freaking amazingly fantastically awesome! I haven't seen the movie, but I've read the books and this looks just like Angua! You did an amazing job with the shading, especially her eyes and the parts where light hits her helmet. Instant fave!

not very likely. one reason for painting angua was, that there exist almost no painting of her. you find plenty of pictures of tiffany and the feegles...
i am currently working on a dragon and next on my agenda are some speed painting to practise certain things (if i find enough spare time ;-))

Very nice. Normally, I don't like the look of the artistic Photoshop filters over an entire piece. But this time it really works.

I get the impression that we're looking at Angua in a contemplative moment when someone snuck an iconograph snapshot of her. It wouldn't be Carrot, he'd politely ask her if she minded first. It's an artsy shot, so I'm going to guess it was Sally, branching out from music and trying her hand at amateur iconography. Vampires would totally be all about dramatic lighting like that, too.

This is fantastic! I particularly like the use of texture- I was convinced this was a traditional piece until I checked your tags. A beautiful Angua.

best version on angua ive seen - just the perfect combination of strength and vulnerability. The mystery created by the dark is perfect and the little knowing smile reflects the character brilliantly. I also love the shine from the helmet, hair and eyes - just wonderful ^^

the woman who played her in the adaptaion is beautiful and youve done a real good job with this portrait, i reconised her in the thumb nail version straight away. i hope the next addaptation is a watch book set after men at arms.

Whoa, this is amazing! Berdal looks brilliant as her, doesn't she? Totally different from what Angua looked like in my head - and yet so fitting!

Beautiful work!

I first thought this was a photograph in the preview! Wonderful work you have done here!

(PS: Did you see her eye-roll in the out-takes? heheh. Enjoyed the movie too, so to see such photorealistic art is a real treat).

I like the 'traditional painting' look of this one, with coarse texture and dark, dull color scheme. Nice piece and a very adequate tribute to Mr Pratchett indeed.
P.S. I loved the Going Postal adaptation:)
